Grandparents: We Need You–Part 2

grandparents-2
Grandparents, we need you. For too long, society has relinquished you to a backseat role. We have neglected to seek your counsel. We have muted your voice. Too often, the only words we want to hear from your lips are, “Yes, honey. That’s a wonderful idea.” We have asked only for your approval, not your warnings or true opinion. Though we may not recognize it, we need you desperately. Last week, we talked about your impact on our lives through a testimony of God’s strength and through wise counsel. This week, let’s look at the most powerful way you can impact the next generation.

Grandparents, We Need You: Part 1

grandparents-2
Grandparents, we need you. For too long, society has relinquished you to a backseat role. We have neglected to seek your counsel. We have muted your voice. Too often, the only words we want to hear from your lips are, “Yes, honey. That’s a wonderful idea.” We have asked only for your approval, not your warnings or true opinion. Though we may not recognize it, we need you for such a time as this. You can impact our lives in three powerful ways.

A Testimony of God’s Strength and Faithfulness
The psalmist writes in Psalm 71:17-18,
“O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works. Now also when I am old and greyheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.”
After a life of faithfulness, this man’s priority is to communicate to the next generation who God is. He will tell his grandchildren, “God is so powerful. When I couldn’t see a way out of the dark valley, God carried me through it.” He will say, “I find God’s strength when I am weak. His grace is always sufficient for me.” As their physical strength wanes, God’s strength is more and more evident in the lives of godly grandparents. They rely on the strength of His mighty arm and find it never-tiring.

The next generation needs to hear this truth from their grandparents’ lips. Young people desperately need to know God’s strength. Crushed in a jostling throng of self-reliance and independence, they struggle.

What Stands Between You And Awesome?

awesome-blog-header

What stands between you and awesome? What holds you back from fulfilling your potential? What prevents you from being all that you were created to be? Too many people today are satisfied with less than their best. They attain a level of comfortable achievement and settle into a holding pattern. Day after day, week after week…they repeat the same actions and get the same results. All is calm, all is safe. But are they truly happy? Are they fulfilling God’s purpose for their life?

In Ecclesiastes 9:10, Solomon, the wisest man on earth, challenges us.
“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.”
Solomon did not say, “When you feel like working, work. The most important thing is to have fun.” He challenged us to find work and “do it with thy might.” God calls us to a life of meaningful, profitable work. What prevents us from doing our best in that work? Let’s look at three areas that can hold us back.
