Does God Make New Year’s Resolutions?

As we enter the New Year, many of us have made resolutions for change. Perhaps we have resolved to hit the gym regularly, be more faithful in our devotions, or drink more Starbucks. (Just kidding about that last one!) For us, change can be a beneficial process.
What is beneficial change? How is that different from detrimental change? Join us at our church in Sydney Mines to learn more about healthy change for better lives.

Fear Not: Immanuel Has Come!

Today, we pull back the dusty tapestries of time and step into the world of Isaiah 7. The date is 735 B.C., and Israel has been a divided people for almost two hundred years. In the north, Pekah rules the ten tribes of Israel. In the south, Ahaz is the king of Judah. Pekah has allied himself with Rezin king of Syria against Ahaz. Together, they plot to take over Judah and crown a puppet king. As Isaiah 7 opens, Ahaz faces the threat of war. How does he react? “And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind.”(verse 2) Terrified of losing his kingdom, Ahaz trembles. Since he has forsaken God, he cannot seek His help. Where will he turn?
