Fear Not: Immanuel Has Come!

Today, we pull back the dusty tapestries of time and step into the world of Isaiah 7. The date is 735 B.C., and Israel has been a divided people for almost two hundred years. In the north, Pekah rules the ten tribes of Israel. In the south, Ahaz is the king of Judah. Pekah has allied himself with Rezin king of Syria against Ahaz. Together, they plot to take over Judah and crown a puppet king. As Isaiah 7 opens, Ahaz faces the threat of war. How does he react? “And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind.”(verse 2) Terrified of losing his kingdom, Ahaz trembles. Since he has forsaken God, he cannot seek His help. Where will he turn?

As we enter the Christmas season, let’s choose to be intentional. While we enjoy cherished traditions and embrace family ties, we must be careful not to be distracted. Like Martha, it’s easy for us to be consumed with the whirl of activities and neglect to sit at Jesus’ feet. In this season, make time to step away from your hustle and seek Jesus. Today, let’s consider a classic Christmas verse.
