25th Annual Louisbourg Race Through Time

Louisbourg Race through Time

One of Cape Breton’s most popular races is the Louisbourg Race through Time. Started in 1995, this annual 8-mile road race takes participants through both the village and the Fortress of Louisbourg. This year, the race is happening on Saturday, August 10th.

Read on for all the details about the 2019 Louisbourg Race Through Time.

When & Where

This year, the Race Through Time will begin at 6:00 pm at the Fortress of Louisbourg. Participants will pick up their kits from 3:00-5:30 pm at the United Church Hall in Louisbourg. Free parking is available on site.

After the 8-mile road race has been completed, at approximately 7:45 pm, there will be a reception at the Fortress. All runners will enjoy a Fish Chowder meal (vegetarian option available) and receive a t-shirt. In addition, first place awards (male and female) will be presented for the following categories: Open, Junior, Senior, Masters, Senior Masters, Golden Masters & Platinum Masters. And the Myles Burke Memorial Award will be presented to the top local male and female. After the reception, there will be a social from 9-11 pm with a live band in honour of the 25th Anniversary.

The Race Route

Each year, the Race Through Time includes both the village of Louisbourg and the historic recreated Fortress. For the first time ever, the 2019 Race has its start and finish lines inside the Fortress, at the Frédéric Gate. Participants will run through the Fortress, loop around behind it, and then run the road back to the village of Louisbourg. Next, they will loop back to the Fortress to their original starting point.
