Community Events: Cape Breton Motor Madness 2019

Looking for something to do this weekend? If you’re in the Sydney area, we recommend checking out the Cape Breton Motor Madness event in North Sydney. It’s happening this Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm at the Emera Centre, Northside (near our Baptist church in Cape Breton). This event offers fun for the whole family!

Read on for all the details about Cape Breton Motor Madness 2019.

What’s happening at the Motor Madness this year?

Advertised as the show for “anything with a motor,” this event features trucks, tractors, motorcycles, and cars of all types. Last year, the Northside rink was filled to capacity with shiny vehicles, and the outdoor display was packed out, too! Vehicles are organized by make, model, and year. Volunteers make sure that each car is parked exactly 4 feet apart, with front bumpers aligned.

In addition to vehicles, there will be a number of on-site vendors to display their products and answer questions. Last year, the vendors were Island 4Wheel Drive, East Coast Modified, Krown Rust Proofing, TireCraft, Harley Owners Group, and VALMAC. Anyone who’s interested in vehicles will love it!

Even better, they will have a BBQ and live entertainment on site. For the kids, there will be face painting, bounce houses, and photo opportunities.

Who runs the Cape Breton Motor Madness?

This event is hosted by the Northside/Harbourview Hospital Foundation. This non-profit organization raises funds for the purchase of equipment at Northside General Hospital and Harbourview Hospital. In addition, they support specific programs and wards of the hospital and health care education. This year, the Foundation will be hosting their 5th Annual Cape Breton Motor Madness event.

How many people will be at the event this year?

In 2018, the event welcomed 2,500 visitors to the Emera Centre. This year is shaping up to be even bigger! There are currently 255 registered entries from Nova Scotia and PEI.

Who are they fundraising for this year?

Funds raised in the 2019 event will be focused on 2 important causes. First, they will be used to purchase new wheelchairs for the Northside General Hospital and Harbourview Hospital. These wheelchairs will cost $30,000 to replace. Some of the wheelchairs currently owned have been in service for 20 years and are unsafe to use. In addition, most patients entering the hospital require a wheelchair to help in their rehabilitation.

Secondly, the event will also be raising funds to support the Memorial High School Youth Clinic. It provides medical services, healthy snacks, feminine hygiene products, and confidential counselling. It serves 1,000 students from Memorial High in addition to students from two middle schools.

How can I get involved?

If you have a vehicle entry, you can register it between 8 am and 10 am on Saturday morning. The cost is just $10 for an outdoor entry and $15 for an indoor entry. Registration covers the vehicle and entrance fees for the driver and a friend!

If you want to bring your family along, come by between 10 am and 4 pm. Registration is just $2/person, and children under 5 get in free!

For more information or to volunteer, you can call Terri or Lauren at 794-5402.
