It’s Not About Us – It’s About Him

At Northside, our desire is to lift up Jesus Christ and introduce others to Him.

We believe that people who have the most fulfilling and joyful lives can be described with these words…

“For the Glory of God and the Benefit of Someone Else.”

At our church, we aren’t perfect. Far from it! But we believe that God’s Word has the answers and help that we need.

So we study the Bible, practice what we learn, and, in the process, grow together.

What Elijah Teaches Us About Discouragement

If anyone understood what discouragement felt like, it would be the prophet Elijah. After a great victory on Mount Carmel, he received a death threat from the wicked queen Jezebel. Fearful, he fled into the wilderness of Beersheba.  He prayed, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.” (1 Kings 19:4) Yet, in that desolate place, God met him, strengthened him, and gave him a renewed mission. (You can check out 1 Kings 18-19 to discover the whole story.)

Here are 3 must-know truths that we can learn from Elijah’s experience.

-Oswald J. Smith

In November 1889, a son was born to a telegraph operator and his wife in rural Ontario. As a youngster, he was responsible to light the signal lamps on either side of the railway station. Little did he dream that, someday, God would use him to blaze the light of the gospel across the globe.

His name was Oswald J. Smith, and this is his remarkable story.

In the Bible, God teaches us to speak words of encouragement, praise, instruction, and truth.

Read on to learn 5 benefits of speaking positive words.
