What Elijah Teaches Us About Discouragement

If anyone understood what discouragement felt like, it would be the prophet Elijah. After a great victory on Mount Carmel, he received a death threat from the wicked queen Jezebel. Fearful, he fled into the wilderness of Beersheba.  He prayed, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.” (1 Kings 19:4) Yet, in that desolate place, God met him, strengthened him, and gave him a renewed mission. 5 Ways that Christians Should Battle Depression

 
If you’ve ever experienced symptoms of depression, you’re not alone. Results from the 2012 Canadian Community Health Survey showed that 11% of 15-24 year olds had experienced depression at some point. And a 2002 Canadian study found that approximately 8% of Canadians will have major depression in their lifetime. Sometimes, depression can result from physical problems. When this is the case, it’s important that you see a doctor and deal with the underlying medical condition. However, God’s Word also gives us principles to help us deal with depression.
