Why You Need The Oil of Joy- Part One

Joy header 1

Why did Jesus come to earth? In Isaiah 61, the prophet reveals Christ’s glorious mission to us. He came to bind up the brokenhearted, set the captives free, to comfort the mourners, and proclaim the day of the Lord. He came not only to redeem His people from the curse of sin but also to do much more.

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.” (Isaiah 61:3)

Christ came to offer salvation, but He did not merely offer forgiveness. He offered beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of heaviness.
